I’m About That Treadmill Life

By J. Maki

The Beginning

I never saw it coming.

I have been a runner for the better part of the last 20 years, though not a very talented one. I love being outdoors and running whenever and wherever I can.

Along the way, I went from running around State College, Pennsylvania, not tracking any distance or pace, just keeping track of how long I was out there, to being obsessed with my metrics and tracking every possible element of my runs to determine whether or not was improving.

Fast forward many years, 12 marathons, 3 30+ mile runs, including a 41 miler, and almost over 10,000 miles, running has simply become a part of my being and something essential to my wellbeing. Without it, my life would not be as fulfilling as it is.

Enter, the Treadmill

Prior to 2019, I would inconsistently run on a treadmill, but my primary mode of training was outdoors. When my wife delivered our 3rd child, my responsibilities changed, and with the requirements of my training schedule, I knew I would need to make an investment in a quality treadmill.

I spent about 2 weeks exploring the internet, reading as much as I could about treadmills, trying to figure out exactly what I should be looking for and what would best suit my goals. As an experienced runner, I didn’t think it would be that difficult, but I found myself skeptical about the websites I visited and the information I read because it felt inauthentic, disingenuous, and overwhelming. As I studied, read, and took notes, something strange happened: I weirdly fell in love with treadmills. I can’t explain it, and I don’t really understand it, but they have become a passion of mine, and I set out to learn as much as I possibly can about the device that at one time was used as a method of torture!

I Knew There Were Others Out There Feeling the Same Way

As I made my decision about the right treadmill for me, I knew that I wasn’t the only person out there who had similar feelings that I did. I decided I would do something about it; hence, The Trusted Treadmill. My goal is to help simplify the process of investing in a treadmill so that it does not feel so overwhelming and confusing. I want to bring a personal touch to this arena and help as many people as possible find the model that is right for them. And that’s the main point. There are tons of treadmills out there, some are good, some are great, and some are not so great. But all have different features and specs that may or may not help individuals achieve their specific goals. While one model may be perfect for an elite, 7 day a week runner, that model may not make sense and may be too much for the walker looking to be active for 30 minutes at the end of every day as they watch Netflix.

The commonality for all of us treadmillers is that a treadmill is an investment in our health, it destroys excuses and provides flexibility and convenience. While it will never be a replacement for running or walking outdoors, I believe with everything it is a must for anyone who desires their healthiest and happiest life.

A Game-changing Investment

We waste thousands of dollars on televisions, new phones, and other tech that makes us passive consumers and does not have a tangible positive impact on our wellbeing. Yet, few of us consider purchasing a treadmill, thinking they are too expensive (not true), or unnecessary and that they can just sign up for a gym. However, many treadmills of quality are inexpensive, and once January ends, most people bag their gym and continue to pay for a membership they won’t use. Why not invest that money in your own personal treadmill that you can use every day to improve your life?

My goal with The Trusted Treadmill is to help you find the right treadmill for you. And beyond that, my greater goal is to get a treadmill in the home of every homeowner in the United States. Sound crazy? Maybe it is. But I know the benefits of exercise and the impact it can have on one’s life, and I want to share that with others.

Drop me a line at jmaki@thetrustedtreadmill.com, let me know how I can help, or share with me how your treadmill investment has changed your life. I’d love to hear from my fellow treadmillionaires!
